East Ridge High School Students Achieve at International Career Development Conference

East Ridge High’s Lindsay Owens (left) and Kelsey Jenkins show off the medals they received for finishing in the top 20 in different educational events at the DECA International and Career Development Conference.CLERMONT — Seven East Ridge High students attended this year’s DECA International and Career Development Conference (ICDC) on April 29th -May 2nd in Orlando.

East Ridge High representatives competed with 15,000 students from across the United States, Puerto Rico, Guam and Canada. Two students made the semifinals and received a Yellow Ribbon Medallion. Lindsay Owens received the Series Top 20 Role Play in Principles of Finance and Kelsey Jenkins received the Series Top 20 Test in Apparel and Accessories Marketing.

“Our East Ridge High School students did a fabulous job and represented us well,” said Simone Seaton, Marketing Educator and DECA Advisor at East Ridge High. “This is an extraordinarily tough competition and a big deal to be recognized on stage at the ICDC.”

East Ridge High students competing at the event included: Danae Ballagh, Jamilda Dorisma, Kiah Husbands, Kelsey Jenkins, Raduan Kalaf, Lindsay Owens and Justin Seaman.

DECA, formerly known as the Distributive Education Clubs of America, provides education and career opportunities for students interested in careers in marketing, management, hospitality, finance and entrepreneurship. DECA prepares the next generation to be: academically prepared, community oriented, and professionally responsible as well as develop leadership skills.
