Opera@theLibrary’s program for July 2011 will be Giuseppe Verdi’s Aïda.  The opera will be shown on Monday, July 25, 2011, in room 108B in the Cooper Memorial Library from 1:45 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.  There will be a brief introduction and lecture before the program by Norma Trivelli, Adjunct Professor of Foreign Languages and vocal coach at Lake-Sumter Community College.  The programs are free to the general public and everyone is encouraged to attend to heighten their understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of opera.  Light refreshments will be provided at intermission by our Friends of the Opera.  For more information about Opera@theLibrary programs, please visit our web presence at http://sites.google.com/site/operaatthelibrary/ or contact Dennis Smolarek at (352) 536-2275 and email at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Nature Hike at Lake Jem Park

altTAVARES — Park Rangers with the Lake County Parks & Trails Division will lead a nature hike on Saturday, July 23rd, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Lake Jem Park & Boat Ramp, located at 16141 County Road 448, Tavares.

Rangers will guide participants through the park and along the one-half mile nature trail to learn more about the wildlife, plants and improvements at the park.

Participants are encouraged to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, insect repellent, a hat and hiking shoes. Reservations are encouraged, but not required.

FREE Fitness Classes

Eustis - The regions ONLY 5 day per week boot camp style fitness program is opening it's doors to the general public for an entire week for absolutely FREE. For one week only Rick Copley, owner and Certified Personal Trainer of Your Best Fitness Coach.com, is offering each of his 9 classes at no cost.

These Functional Fitness Classes are held at the Impact Center Gymnasium behind the Trinity Evangelical Free Church at 890 Abrams Road in Eustis. Each person that tries a class gets a t-shirt and an opportunity to be part of the best fitness program in the Golden Triangle area.

All ages and abilities are welcome. The classes are as follows: Monday 5:30 p.m., Tuesday 6 a.m., 9 a.m. and noon, Wednesday 5:30 p.m., Thursday 6 a.m., 9 a.m., noon, and Friday at 6 a.m. All classes are open to the general public with no fee and no obligation. There is no limit. Participants can come to one class or all 9 classes during the week.

Learn Ways to Care for Florida Lawns

altTAVARES — The Lake County Extension is inviting residents to an upcoming educational program entitled, “Lawn Care in Florida” on Tuesday, June 7th, from 10 a.m. to noon at the Lake County Agricultural Center, located at 1951 Woodlea Road in Tavares.

The program, led by Charles Fedunak, Environmental Horticulture Agent with the University of Florida/Lake County Extension (UF/IFAS), will discuss best management practices to maintaining a healthy and beautiful Florida lawn.

There is a $5 fee for the program to cover the costs of materials.  Pre-registration is requested by Monday, June 6th.

The Lake County Extension provides research-based information and educational programs cooperatively with the Lake County Board of County Commissioners and the University of Florida for all aspects of horticulture, agriculture, food safety, the home environment, financial management and 4-H youth programs.

The Extension’s mission is to make knowledge in agricultural, human and natural resources accessible to people to sustain and enhance the quality of human life. The Lake County Extension provides a free master gardener plant clinic and free consultations as well as educational programs on a variety of subjects.

Trash to Treasures Sale

Leesburg, Florida - The Downtown Leesburg Business Association will be hosting the 2nd Annual "Leesburg Cornfest" on Saturday, June 4, 2011 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The Leesburg Center for the Arts will be joining in on the fun by hosting a "Trash to Treasures" sale at the corner of 5th and Magnolia, both inside and on the sidewalk.

To be successful, the Center for the Arts is looking for patrons and supporters to let us help you clean out your closets, garages, cabinets and storage sheds. Your donated items can be dropped off at the Leesburg Center for the Arts or you can call us for pick up between now and Thursday, June 2nd at 352-365- 0232. Since we are a 501(C)3, we will be happy to provide a tax deductible donation receipt for your donation. All profits from the sale at 5th and Magnolia will benefit the programs of the Leesburg Center for the Arts including the Rotary Summer Art Institute for Kids and the Saturday Morning Art Zone.
