Sumter’s Sweetheart Pet Contest Update

Print E-mail
altDon’t forget to enter your pet or votes in the Humane Society/SPCA’s “Sumter’s Sweetheart” Online Pet Contest while there’s still time! “We’re at the halfway point in the contest so it’s still anyone’s chance at winning over $800 in great prizes. We’re still anticipating other entries and the voting to increase the excitement of who will be crowned Sumter’s Sweetheart for 2011” mentioned Event Coordinator Claudia Labbe. “We are pleased to see a greater variety of pet types this year. So far, we have seen birds, a bunny, a miniature donkey along with the many beloved dogs and cats. Any type of pet is eligible according to the contest rules as long as it currently lives in Sumter County but votes can come from everywhere in the world. We encourage everyone to spread the word about the contest and decide who will be Sumter’s Sweetheart for 2011!”

Ms. Labbe noted that a common strategy is for some voters to donate their votes early during the contest, wait to see where their favorite entry is in the standings and then pull their votes out the their contest “bank” account and cast them at the last minute for a landslide win of their favorite. So she suggests that all voters check that they use any banked votes in their account before the end of the contest or they won’t count towards the contest standings even though their donation will still help animals in need.

“Sumter’s Sweetheart” online pet contest will run until February 11th. Contest rules and information for entrants/voters and the prizes are all posted on the website contest link. The revenue received will go towards many needs such as food, medical care and on-going animal cruelty investigations. For more information, visit www.hsspca.org or call 352-793-9117. Updates will posted on the HS/SPCA’s Facebook page and website regularly.

altCLERMONT, FL – Tickets are now on sale for the most spectacular chair-ity event of the season!  The CHAIR-TACULAR will be held on Saturday, January 22nd from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Lakeridge Winery & Vineyards.  The evening will include delicious food from Carrabba’s Italian Grill, wine from Lakeridge Winery, live music and entertainment by John Harman.  The main focus of the event will be a chair-themed silent auction.

“The whole concept of the Chair-tacular is that many of the silent auction packages include some sort of seat – it could be patio furniture, a wagon, barstools, a child’s potty chair – as long as you can sit on it!” explained the event chairperson Andrea Sell.

Tickets are available for $50 per person, and all proceeds benefit the South Lake Unit of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Lake and Sumter Counties.  “The first time this ‘chair-ity’ auction was held [in August 2009] we were still raising money to try and open a Boys & Girls Club in South Lake.  The South Lake Unit opened almost a year to the day after that event, and now has over 100 kids registered!” stated Michelle Michnoff, a South Lake Steering Committee member who now serves on the Unit’s Advisory Board.
