Toys for Tots

altThe annual collection of Toys for Tots is underway. As usual, the Mount Dora Fire Department is a collection site.  This year, we have added collections at the second fire station on Hwy 19-A as well.  If you participate in this charitable program, feel free to drop off your donations at either station.  For the past few years, Mount Dora has been at the top as one of the largest collection points in Lake County. Last year, we had a portable storage company donate the use of a storage unit just to hold the volume of donations!

The Good Neighbor Program 11th Annual Blanket Drive Event

Take out your dancing shoes. It's time to Swing to the music of the 40's.
 
WHEN: Friday, November 19th, 2010  at 7 p.m.
WHERE: The Wesley Center, 950 7th Street Clermont, FL 34711
WHAT:   Buffet dinner and show, $42.00 per person
WHY:  100% of proceeds go to help feed hungry children in Lake County through "Share your Strength, No Kid Goes Hungry". A portion of the proceeds will also benefit The Southlake Historical Society's historic village.

In a time when we all get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, The Good Neighbor Program is taking you back to kinder and gentler days. The Wesley Center is being transformed into a 1940's supper Club; The Carousel Club complete with buffet dinner and live swing band "Nostalgia".
 
This is your opportunity to Dress up, enjoy a fantastic meal and dance to a live swing band, all while giving back. The weather is already showing signs of an another cold winter ahead.
 
Please bring one new blanket to help our neighbors in need.

 

Feeding Lake County

altIf you are part of a Food Pantry that distributes in Lake County, the Community Foundation of South Lake would like to invite you to our next meeting.  The group is called Food Providers of Lake County and they will next meet on Thursday, December 2, at 8:30 a.m., here at the Foundation located at 2150 Oakley Seaver Drive, Clermont FL 34711. 

We currently have several groups (churches, local food pantries and not-for-profit groups) from across Lake County who attend this meeting.  They meet with one common goal:  feeding those most in need.  Bruce Greer, Executive Director of the Foundation, and Jack Wallace of the Clermont Kiwanis are the facilitators.

Two food grant awards were given at the November 11th meeting:  $1,299 to The Family Christian Center in Clermont and $3,000 to The Faith Neighborhood Center in Groveland for their continued fundraising efforts.  Congratulations were offered to the grantees by members who attended this meeting, a picture is attached.

“Nonprofit organizations located in Lake County may receive funds to replenish food pantries or provide feeding programs to the community.  Attend one of our meetings and use one of our applications to apply,” said Bruce Greer.  Matching Grant Applications will be reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis.

Funds will be provided to feeding agencies located in Lake County on a $1 for $2 raised basis.  This fund is called, Feeding Lake County Fund and it was provided through the generosity of the charitable Edyth Bush Foundation of Orlando.

“Challenge for a Cause” Horsemanship Clinic

ONLY HSSPCA horses are shown - many of these horses were unhandled and now look what they can do!The HS/SPCA of Sumter County will be having a “Challenge for a Cause” equine obstacle course clinic on Saturday, December 4th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sumter Equestrian Center to promote their adoptable horses, improve the relationship with rider & horse, offer great equine/pet auction items, a used tack yard sale and most importantly provide an instructional informative seminar held by Natural Horsemanship trainers from Bobbie Miller’s Training Center. Bobbie Miller and associate Gary Adams have been assisting the HS/SPCA by training the many rescued horses who have since been adopted. The remaining equines are awaiting their chance to been met at the “Challenge for a Cause” event and find their forever homes too.

Bobbie Miller commented that “this event can make a wonderfully creative holiday gift for any equestrian! $50 will provide a rider/horse team participation in the obstacle course clinic, lunch and a stall for the day, while $25 is all it will cost to audit the event and lunch. Space is limited though so register soon!” Access to the tack yard sale, auction and to meet the adoptable horses is free at the Sumter Equestrian Center at 6742 West CR 476 in Bushnell. Horse and rider teams MUST pre-register and pay via the Humane Society/SPCA’s website hsspca.org via Paypal, by snail mail at PO Box 67, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33538 or at the HS/SPCA office located at 994 CR 529A and open M-F from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Proceeds will be donated to the HS/SPCA to help care for these beautiful adoptable horses. Proof of negative Coggins is required, minors must wear safety approved equestrian helmets and stallions are not permitted. For more info, please contact Claudia at 352-817-3995 or Bobbie at 407-865-2713.
