             Warms ups / Batting Practice from 10:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

Where:   Disney Wide World of Sports

A silent auction with Braves memorabilia from former and current Brave greats will also be a part of the day’s festivities.

MVP Passes $125 – (12 passes available RSVP right now!) that include; Transportation to and from the game, continental Breakfast, Field Passes to be on the field for batting practice and warm ups, an opportunity to Meet the Legendary Bobby Cox (former manager of the Braves) on the field for pictures and autographs and prime seating behind the dugout.

Home Run package $35 – (40 seats available RSVP now!) that include; transportation to and from the game, continental breakfast and a game ticket.

To purchase tickets only - $30

For those tickets including transportation, the bus will leave at 9 a.m. sharp from the Target Shopping Center at Hancock Rd. and Hwy 50 in Clermont.

The Lou Burdette Caregiver Fund: For Those Who Care was started in 2007 as a legacy to honor not only a great baseball player, but a wonderful man who loved and cared for his wife of 58 years who had Alzheimer’s for her last 10 years.  He never knew a stranger and was great to his family and friends.

Plans in the works for the Lou Burdette Caregiver Fund: For Those Who Care are a Care Cottage that will provide an Adult Day Health Program and offering assistance to caregivers providing care for their loved ones.  We will help family members learn how to give care and access available resources.

In addition we will provide scholarships for people with the desire and heart to be a professional caregiver such as Home Health Aides and Certified Nursing Assistants as well as loan medical equipment to the elderly.

“Waves for Whiskers” Boat Poker Run at Lake Panasoffkee

altCome enjoy a scenic day with your boat and friends at Sumter’s own beautiful Lake Panasoffkee on March 26th, 2011 (raindate 3/27/11) while helping raise funds for the Humane Society/SPCA’s Green Shelter Fund. For only $18, boaters can enjoy a fun game of 5 Card Draw Poker, receive a delicious lunch from Werda-Heckamiat Fish Camp and the talents of Last Tyme Out String Band of the Villages for entertainment. The day activities will also include a silent auction and 50/50 chance drawing!

Boaters and their passengers who register from 8 a.m to 9 a.m. will tour the lake’s five fish camp docks: Werda-Heckamiat (R), Idlewild Fish Camp, PanaVista Lodge (R), Turtleback RV park and Tracy’s Point Fish Camp (R) for each of their five poker cards, then return to base by noon at Werda-Heckamiat to compare all poker hands. The best hand will receive half of the registration money. Boat rentals are also available at three of the stops mentioned with an “R” for those who wish to enter the poker run and take in the beauty of the lake too! Boaters can launch from any of these participating docks with slip fees waived for the event. Landlubbers and animal lovers are always welcome while the poker run is available only to those in watercraft. The silent auction and 50/50 will run until 1 p.m. and the live music will be from noon till two.

The Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County continuously works hard to raise funds to construct Central Florida’s first green animal shelter in order to better serve Sumter’s growing demands. They only receive funding from donations by the public and receive no assistance from any government agency. Carol LeGrand, co-coordinator of this fundraiser stressed that “we must remind the public that the need for this shelter is always present and grows more urgent every year. Please join us in this fun event while learning how you can help get this animal shelter built sooner than later.” If you wish to send in your contribution to the “Green” Shelter campaign, please send your donation to the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, Inc., PO Box 67, Lake Panasoffkee, FL 33538 or via their website with Paypal. Lake-Sumter EMS Holds Benefit Yard Sale for National EMS Memorial Bike Ride

altThe Lake-Sumter EMS Memorial Bike Team will ride again!  Last spring our 6-member team participated for the first time in the National EMS Memorial Bike Ride (NEMSMBR).  The team found the experience to be so rewarding, both personally and in raising awareness of EMS heroes, that they are committed to riding again this spring. The 450-mile National EMS Memorial Bike Ride takes place May 14-21, 2011 and begins in Boston, MA and culminates in Washington, DC for a final gathering.  The Lake-Sumter EMS Memorial Bike team has been training for several months now; they are honing their riding skills and looking forward to this great opportunity again! 

The NEMSMBR is designed to honor Emergency Medical Services personnel and celebrate the lives of those who serve every day, those who have become sick or injured while performing their duties, and those who have died in the line of duty.  Lake-Sumter EMS’ participation this year will once again honor Capt. David DeLand who passed away on duty in November 2009 and our team will proudly ride in his memory.

Our team members share the vision of the NEMSMBR to see recognition of EMS as a profession, a reduction in debilitating injuries and line of duty deaths in EMS and a national EMS accountability system. We are excited to join them in focusing attention on the accomplishments of all EMS personnel, and educating the community at large about the need for improved safety standards, injury prevention, disability tracking and death benefits for EMS personnel and their families.

The Second Annual Benefit Yard Sale for the Lake-Sumter EMS Memorial Bike Team will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2011 beginning at 8 a.m.  The sale will be held in the parking lot at Lake-Sumter EMS’ Administration Office, 2761 W Old Highway 441 in Mount Dora.  (Rain delay date is March 19, 2011). Funds raised at the Benefit Yard Sale will be used to offset the cost of the team’s participation in the 450-mile ride and proceeds will be donated to the NEMSMBR’s Fallen Angels Fund.  Monies in the Fallen Angels Fund are distributed to the families of line of duty death providers via scholarships or direct distributions.  DONATIONS:  If you have good, used items to donate to the benefit yard sale bring donations to Administration between now and the date of the sale.

Lake-Sumter Emergency Medical Services, Inc. is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2000 by Lake and Sumter Counties to provide quality, community-based EMS services.  The agency operates 28 Advanced Life Support units from stations located throughout both Lake and Sumter counties.  The company is governed by a Board of Directors headed by Chairman Welton G. Cadwell.  Jim Judge serves as Executive Director with administrative offices located at 2761 W. “Feasting and Fundraising” at Bob Evans

altMark your calendars for March 3rd because it is “Feasting & Fundraising” time again at Bob Evans Restaurant! Print out the flyer from the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County’s website or Facebook page and bring it with your appetites, hungry friends, club members, church goers, classmates, neighbors, clients, etc. to Bob Evans on CR 466 in The Villages anytime between 6:30 a.m. through 9:30 p.m. for breakfast, lunch or dinner and when you present the flyer you will help the HS/SPCA receive 15% of you bill’s total.

“If supporters would eat just one meal at Bob Evans on March 3rd (or take-out meals) it will help us give a meal to a hungry pet in Sumter County too” mentioned Chairperson Mary Chiles of the Village of Polo Ridge. “Donations will also be used to provide veterinary care and on-going cruelty investigations. Last November we had a ‘Feasting & Fundraising’ there and we raised $600. So let’s go enjoy a nice meal together, knowing we’re also helping our community.
